Accessibility Statement
Kai-zo-ro is made by one person, Ludvík Šajtar, in the Czech Republic. We want everyone to be able to play, including people who use a keyboard or a screen reader, or who need less motion on screen. This statement covers the Kai-zo-ro app and this website, ascendquests.com.
1. Our goal
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. Kai-zo-ro has not been audited by an independent party, so we do not claim full conformance. The app is still in development, and we fix problems as we find them.
2. What we do today
- Keyboard. Every button and control can be reached and used with the keyboard, with a visible focus outline. Quests can be verified with Space or Enter, not only with touch or a mouse.
- No need to press and hold. A quest is normally verified by holding its button for 2 seconds, which guards against accidental taps. If holding is hard for you, turn on Tap to Verify Quests in Settings. A single tap, Enter or Space, or your screen reader's activate gesture is then enough.
- Screen readers. Buttons and controls have accessible names, dialogs are labelled, and decorative icons are hidden from assistive technology. While a dialog is open, focus stays inside it and the rest of the screen is inactive. When you verify a quest, the result is announced.
- Less motion. A Reduced Motion switch in Settings turns off particle effects and large animations. The app also follows your device's "reduce motion" setting.
- Sound is optional. Sound effects can be switched off in Settings. Nothing in the game depends on hearing a sound.
- Two themes. A dark theme and a light theme (Solar Light).
- Images. Quest photos use the quest's title as their text alternative.
- No time pressure. Quests reset daily, but no action has to be finished within a time limit.
3. Known limitations
- Screen-reader testing is not complete. We test with automated tools (axe-core) and check what each screen announces, but we have not yet tested the whole app on a phone with VoiceOver and TalkBack.
- Some small text in Settings, such as counters and section labels, may have lower contrast than WCAG AA asks for. We are working on it.
- Language. The app and this website are available in English only.
- Content from others. Quests proposed by players and photos from Pexels are reviewed before they appear, but other people wrote their wording and descriptions, so clarity can vary.
- Celebration effects (level-ups, confetti) move and light up the screen. They are short, and you can turn them off with Reduced Motion.
4. Feedback and contact
If something in Kai-zo-ro is hard or impossible for you to use, please tell us. Email ascendhelps@gmail.com with "Accessibility" in the subject line. Tell us what you were trying to do, and which device and assistive technology you use. We aim to reply within 14 days. If we cannot fix the problem quickly, we will try to help you another way.
5. Enforcement
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Czech Trade Inspection Authority (Česká obchodní inspekce, www.coi.gov.cz), which supervises the accessibility of products and services in the Czech Republic.
6. How we prepared this statement
This statement is based on our own review of the app's code, automated testing with axe-core against WCAG 2.2 levels A and AA, and manual testing in a web browser. We will review it at least once a year and whenever the app changes significantly.
